Former Notre Dame DL Sheldon Day was the seventh and final player from the university to be drafted in the 2016 NFL Draft on Saturday, going to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fourth round (103).

During the 2015 season, Day helped the Irish with 45 tackles, including 15.5 for a loss. He had four sacks on the year and helped lead an Irish defense that was plagued with injuries and setbacks.

And while Day was the final Irish player to be drafted, five more were signed as free agents following the draft.

Defensive end Romeo Okwara signed with the New York Giants. Okwara led the Irish with eight sacks during the 2015 season. Defensive back Mathias Farley and receiver Amir Carlisle were signed by the Arizona Cardinals. Safety Elijah Shumate was picked up by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Saturday afternoon.

The Texas love for the Irish continued after the draft as well, with wide receiver Chris Brown signing with the Dallas Cowboys. He will join Jaylon Smith – drafted in the second round – in Dallas.

A final Notre Dame player – Ishaq Williams – will attend the Giants rookie camp next week for a tryout with the team.

These signings bring the grand total of former Notre Dame players signed to NFL teams to 12.
