The Maze Runner, the latest release from 20th Century Fox, bolts into theaters on Sept. 11, but the studio still has something epic in store for its release.

The adaptation of the epic best-selling sci-fi novel of the same name will be digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX® format and released across all domestic IMAX® theatres for a one-week engagement on Sept. 19.

Based on a work by James Dashner, Maze Runner tells the tale of a young amnesiac named Thomas (Dylan O’Brien of Teen Wolf the series) who wakes up trapped in a massive, craggy but verdant maze with another group of kids fighting to survive. Only by piecing together fragments of his past with clues he discovers in the maze – and dreams of a shadowy group called WCKD – can Thomas hope to uncover his true purpose and a way to escape.

The movie also stars Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Game of Thrones), Will Poulter (We’re the Millers), Kaya Scodelario (Clash of the Titans), and veteran Academy Award®-nominated actress Patricia Clarkson. Wes Ball directed, from a script by Noah Oppenheim,Grant Pierce Myers and T.S. Nowlin.

“We’re thrilled to be able to present visionary director Wes Ball’s The Maze Runner in the immersive IMAX experience, which will enthrall audiences world wide,” commented Chris Aronson, President of Domestic Distribution, 20th Century Fox.

IMAX Entertainment is thrilled about the film as well, and excited about doing business with Fox, according to IMAX CEO Greg Foster. “After seeing The Maze Runner, this is an ideal and very cinematic adaptation that is ripe for IMAX moviegoers,” he said.

The IMAX release of The Maze Runner will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX’s customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, are meant to create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.

An innovator in entertainment and technology, IMAX combines proprietary software, architecture and equipment to create experiences that take you beyond the edge of your seat to a world you’ve never imagined.

IMAX has headquarters in New York, Los Angeles, and Toronto, and offices around the world. To date, there are 868 theaters in 59 countries.
